A woman was on Thursday crushed to death after a huge tree fell on her at Mbaraki area in Mombasa County.Confirming the incident, Mombasa County Police Commander Johnstone Ipara said the tree fell on food stalls following heavy rainfall.Mombasa county emergency team rescued two other people who were trapped under the tree. The two who sustained injuries were taken to hospital for treatment.Ipara said the deceased and those who were injured were selling food under the tree when the incident occurred.According to the police, the deceased was washing utensils when the tree fell on her killing her on the spot.“Heavy downpour might be the cause of the incident. Two others were seriously injured and were rushed to Coast General Hospital for treatment,” said the police commander.Mr Ipara said the police have launched investigations into the incident adding that the body of the deceased was moved to Coast General morgue.According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, the heavy downpour that began on Tuesday is set to continue.Kenya Meteorological Department Director Peter Ambenje said the offshore heavy rains may penetrate inlands, especially in parts of the South Coast, adding that other parts of the Coast may also experience heavy rains.Heavy rains have caused traffic snarl-ups on various roads in Mombasa due to flooding in main roads.The flooding has also affected some residential areas.
