Kiambu County Water and Environment CeC David Kimani Kuria has said that a programme to plant trees in schools and residential areas throughout the county starts next year. Addressing Muguga residents in Thika on Thursday, Kimani said the county government will provide seedlings to schools and households in order to increase the tree cover in the county when rains begin."Our county is facing a great danger of desertification due to cutting down of trees by people in order to put up apartments and commercial houses. This is why we have found it wise to start this campaign to counter the effects of this mass cut down of trees," said Kimani. The CeC also urged residents to embrace the 'cut one plant two' slogan in order to maintain the county's tree cover. Kimani also revealed that the county government is intending to supply Kiambu residents with clean drinking water by up to 60 percent by 2019. "We have already entered into a memorandum with Visionary Empowerment Programme where we have started to give out water tanks to households in order to conserve water," said Kimani. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kiambu that you want Hivisasa to cover?
