This is after one of the suspects was allegedly caught attempting to ferry stolen drugs out of the hospital.

Speaking from his office on Wednesday, Gatundu North sub-county administrator Hillary Mukora said the three were suspended to pave way for investigations following a board decision.

The suspended officers  are casual workers at the hospital.

The hospital administrator said one of them escaped after he was nabbed by the security personnel manning the hospital gate while attempting to ferry the drugs valued at over Sh10,000.

Mukora noted that his office had in the past registered complaints from members of the public about suspected theft of drugs at the hospital but termed the incident as the single largest consignment of stolen drugs ever to be seized at the facility.

He further cited the results of a preliminary audit of the hospital records following the incident that indicated that no drugs had illegally left the facility as a pointer to a well-orchestrated syndicate.

The administrator, however, appealed for calm from the local residents. He assured them that his office was in the process of putting in place measures to curb further drug theft in all primary health facilities within the sub-county.

He at the same time warned those working in the health facilities that the county government would take legal action against any of its employees who act in breach of their employment code of ethics.

Area DCIO, Peter Muchemi confirmed that the case had been lodged with his office and is currently being investigated.
