There was trouble at Masii police station on Sunday, after some Mwala Sub-county residents gathered demanding the release of two arrested men for allegedly burning down a tractor.
It is alleged that the two men were arrested after a tractor was burnt down by residents while fetching sand from a nearby river.
The residents argued that the tractor was not burned by only the two but most of the residents, and it was unfair to have only the two in custody.
Mwala OCPD Kiragu Mugo confirmed the incidents and urged residents to remain calm, as the two men will be arraigned in court on Monday for their act.
However, the residents demanded that since they were all involved in the burning of the tractor incident, then they will all appear in court, which the police officer dared them to.
He also urged the residents to avoid administering mob justice to lawbreakers and advised them to report such incidents to the police for action, instead of taking them on their hands.
In the recent past, the residents of Machakos County have vowed to stop sand harvesting, which they claimed has caused the rivers to run dry, subjecting them to water shortage.
