A section of Ukambani leaders have termed Kalonzo Musyoka’s running mate position in the NASA line up as a “raw deal”.

The Wiper leaders – National Assembly Minority leader Francis Nyenze and Kitui Senator David Musila – said their party leader was short changed in the last minute.

Nyenze said up to the last minute, they knew Kalonzo would be the NASA flag bearer.

The Kitui West MP was in the 12-member National Coordinating Committee that was deliberating on the strongest opposition line up to face Jubilee’s President Uhuru Kenyatta.

NASA named Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate and Kalonzo his running mate at Uhuru park yesterday.

“We need to talk and see the way forward. We cannot just assume that our people will follow some instructions. We do not want anybody to take Kambas for a ride. The bringing in of new people in NASA was to keep the 2013 MoU underground...” Nyenze said at a press conference on Friday.

Nyenze said Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) and ANC joining Cord might or might not benefit the opposition coalition.

He raised concern that the NASA agreement that Raila Odinga will only be a transitional President might be dishonoured just like the 2013 MoU.

The Kitui West MP had warned the National Super Alliance team that if Kalonzo was not named the opposition’s flag bearer, they will walk out of NASA.

The MP said that as Ukambani leaders, they will have to consult their members on whether to campaign for NASA or not.

On Thursday, Musila quit the Wiper party and resigned as chairman after he lost in the Kitui governor primaries to Governor Julius Malombe.

Musila blamed Kalonzo for his defeat.
