National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale, on Tuesday, called on the IEBC Wafula Chebukati to tell the nation that he has failed in providing leadership in the commission.
The Garissa Township MP was reacting to Monday's resignation of 3 IEBC commissioners who cited lack of leadership.
Speaking at his office in the parliament buildings, Mr. Duale said that the resignation of Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya, and Connie Maina is a clear indication of leadership crisis in the commission.
The three commissioners now join another commissioner, Roselyne Akombe, who resigned last year ahead of the repeat polls claiming that the commission was not fit enough to hold the elections.
"Chairman Wafula Chebukati in all intent and purpose has confirmed to the nation that there is a leadership crisis. He has failed to offer leadership in as far as the running of the secretariat is concerned," said Mr. Duale.
Given the resignation of the three commissions, Mr. Duale said it is high time Mr. Chebukati came out and told the nation that his secretariat team has no confidence in him.
The resignation now leaves only Abdi Guliye, Boya Molu and Chairperson Wafula Chebukati as the remaining members of the commission.
"Akombe left, three has left, now that tells you that there is a leadership crisis and chairman Wafula Chebukati should tell the country that I have failed as chairman of IEBC and I think my commissioners have no confidence in me," added Mr. Duale.
Following the exit of the 3 commissioners, the National assembly now has the mandate to provide a legal proposal on how the next commission can be constituted as it currently lacks the required quorum.
