Long distance truck drivers along major highways in Kisii have been accused of luring underage girls for their sexual satisfaction.
On Monday, a group of residents from Gesonso area alerted Kisii police officers over the issue and demanded a stern action against perpetrators of the act.
According to Elias Omariba, the truck drivers who normally park their vehicles along Kisii-Sirare highway have been luring underage girls, with some going missing even up to four weeks.
“These are not just mere accusations. These people have been enticing young girls for sex. They have become notorious and if action is not taken, the problem might escalate,” he said.
He added, “We are informed that the targets are paid as low as Sh100 while those who are a bit mature are promised goodies from the neighbouring Tanzania.”
His sentiments were echoed by Alice Momanyi who accused the drivers of “child abuse and irresponsibility” by citing an example where a truck driver was roughed up by locals when he was allegedly caught in the act.
However, area police boss Tom Mutisya said the allegations were under investigations and urged locals to be patient till investigations are concluded.
“I have formerly received the complaints and I appeal to all concerned to remain calm as we investigate the incident,” he said.
