Operations at the Likoni channel were partially grounded for hours Wednesday evening after a tipper truck loaded with sand got stuck at a ferry rump and plunged into the ocean.
The truck was disembarking from the ferry from Mombasa Island going to Likoni main land, before it failed to climb the rump. It forced the ferry technicians and a salvage crew to embark on hauling it from the Indian Ocean where it lay a quarter-submerged.
The truck had occupied part of the rump making it hard for other motorists to find their ways into and out of the ferry.
Fortunately no casualties were reported, the driver was fine and was aiding in salvaging the truck from the ocean.
Commuters who wanted to witness the salvage were urged to leave the place so that they could not cause necessary congestion at the channel
"Stop staring at the truck, there is nothing important there to keep you still. Be on the move so that you open ways for other commuters who are waiting to use the ferries, let us save time please
"You should not wait for securities before moving from the rump, it is a matter of common sense citizens," said the officer in charge of communications.
