Daniel Muthuli 29, who is a resident of the area, is said to have been oncoming at the BAT junction when he joined the highway, oblivious of the danger he was putting himself into.

Confirming the incident, Thika sub-county traffic police base commander Francis Muthamia admitted that motorist accidents are on the rise in the area.

“These cases have risen as it is the fourth in two weeks’ time in just Makongeni,” Muthamia said.

“It's a clear indication that the motorists in this area are not qualified and they have not passed through us to acquire licences,” he added.

The traffic commander ordered an immediate search to get those who do not have licences arrested and the truck driver, who sped off after running over the motorist.

The body of the deceased was taken to Thika Level Five hospital mortuary.
