President Donald Trump, through state department, now wants Kenyans to hold a national dialogue following divisive election that has left tens of people dead.
With allegedly police brutality going viral, Trump’s administration had to wait until President Uhuru Kenyatta took oath of office on Tuesday to pass the message.
“We urge Kenyans to join together to hold an immediate, sustained and open national conversation to heal divisions among communities,” read the statement.
Barely a month ago, opposition leader Raila Odinga, in his 10-day trip to US, accused Washington DC of remaining silent on Kenyan electoral crisis.
Although Odinga has chosen the use civil disobedience, the US said, upholding the rule of law will enable the country move forward.
“We encourage all Kenyans to come together at this critical moment and uphold the constitution,” the statement added.
At Washington DC, Odinga had blamed Western envoys of being ‘part’ of Kenyan problem and urged for immediate intervention.
