Despite his trip to seek support from the west, Raila Odinga’s quest for ‘electoral justice’ may take longer than expected following US’s non-commitment to his concerns.

At Washington last Thursday, Odinga had stated that western allies had abandoned Kenya’s quest to fight ‘bad leadership, adding that part of envoys were the problem.

“We are concerned that some of our friends do not want to pay much attention. The crisis is more than election disputes,” he said.

But US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa on Tuesday insisted that there were issues and both sides of political divide had raised the concerns.

“I met Odinga and similarly, we have heard from Uhuru Kenyatta’s position. There are some issues but we shall take some time to examine them,” he said as reported by the Nation.

He adds: “The issues will take some time and there is no need to worry. Eventually, we shall have both sides solving the standoff.”

But Odinga had insisted of immediate action arguing that should the west fail to take action, the situation in Kenya could deteriorate.

Already, he has mobilized for People’s Assemblies whose aim is to declare Uhuru ‘unconstitutionally’ elected thus push for secession should elections fail to take place in 90 days’ time.
