American President Donald Trump insists that Kenya’s electoral body IEBC should be given easy time to conduct elections without intimidation from political quarters.
In a jibe purposely targeting the opposition team, Trump also warns against incitement that could plunge the country to chaos.
“The electoral body cannot satisfy everyone and we should avoid giving it extreme demands,” said Robert Godec, Trump’s representative to Kenya.
He further said:” we should give the commission time, space and respect. We should not paralyze the commission.”
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has in the past called for eviction of certain officials from the commission failure to which he boycotts October election, a move that Godec termed as unnecessary.
“The growing list to political demands, rhetoric and boycott threats undermine IEBC’s ability to carry out it’s constitutionally mandate of holding elections.”
The US representative did not either spare President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he cautioned against pushing for electoral law changes that are being championed by Jubilee party.
