Co-principal Musalia Mudavadi addressed the press on Sunday evening, where he announced that the inauguration had been pushed to a later date following consultations. He also cited internal, national and international interventions as the reasons behind the postponement. The ceremony had been slated for December 12, at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County a day Kenyans would be celebrating Jamhuri Day to mark 54 years of independence.
The US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec termed the move as positive, especially after he, alongside other foreign diplomats and religious leaders had a meeting with NASA principals about the same.
"NASA's decision yesterday (Sunday) is a positive step. We again call for a sustained, open, and transparent national conversation involving all Kenyans to build national unity and address long-standing issues," Godec who represents Donald Trump's government in Kenya, tweeted on Monday.
During a meeting on Friday last week, the envoys were led by Godec and the British High Commissioner Nic Hailey.NASA was represented by Odinga, Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Prof Kivutha Kibwana. The diplomats urged President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee government, the opposition and all Kenyans "to engage in open, transparent national conversation to address underlying issues and strengthen institutions to help Kenya."
