US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is expected in Nairobi, Kenya's capital today (Friday).
Tillerson has been in an inaugural tour of Africa's five countries where he was expected in Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria.
The tour kicked off on Tuesday, March 6 and would end March 13, making it the first tour for a high profile US official to visit Kenya since President Donald Trump assumed office.
On Monday, Acting assistant secretary, Bureau of African Affairs Ambassador Donald Yamamoto, said: "The US assistance is being streamlined to support economic development in Africa, focusing on key sectors: entrepreneurship, girls' education, strengthening banking institutions and addressing Africa’s rising indebtedness."
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to meet Tillerson.
The visit came even as Uhuru met opposition leader Raila Odinga at his Harambee House office, on Friday morning.
The US Embassy through Ambassador Robert Godec has been calling for dialogue between the two leaders to calm Kenya's political temperatures.
Odinga had vowed never to recognise Uhuru-presidency terming him an illegitimate president.
