Youths in Masalani Ward seeking to invest in business have been urged to consider event management as a viable business idea.Masalani Ward MCA Mohamed Shide said that there exist several opportunities in event planning, but many people have not yet considered it as a viable business opportunity.Speaking in his office through a phone call to a local radio station on Thursday morning, Mr Shide who was at a certain time promoting and sponsoring various youth-related activities before he became Garrisa deputy speaker in the past term, urged youths to take advantage of the funds introduced by the State and the county governments to venture into the field."Events organising is an emerging business opportunity that many people are yet to embrace, and it is something I would advise young entrepreneurs in Masalani and Garrisa county to think seriously about," said Shinde.He added: "The demand for social events organisers is on the rise especially in this town. A lot of people who are planning dowry payment ceremonies, organising graduation or birthday parties are busy and don't have time to organise the events themselves. So, as an event organiser, this is where you come in. You do all the work involved on their behalf and they pay you."He also noted that the government offers 30 percent of its tenders to youth and women, adding that the tenders are not only restricted to goods but also involve services."Many of us think that tendering is all about goods. You can also tender, for example, to be the one to organise for this year's public Day celebrations at the sub-county level or even the county level.
