[PHOTO/Saringi.com]The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has sent out for about 2,000 applications in a bid to replace retiring teachers and those leaving the teaching service for various reasons. An official communique from the service said that the replacements would target positions left by teachers who left natural attrition. Some 1,491 slots are for replacing those who left in primary schools while another 499 will be for those who left post primary schools/institutions.According to TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, these teachers exited public service from about October 1 to December 31 last year. For the retirement cases, this replacement will cover up to June 30, 2017.“Applicants who were engaged on contract as relief teachers should attach a copy of the contract letter and reporting casualty return,” Ms Macharia said. The document, which is dated March 6, 2017, adds that applicants who seek to teach primary schools should have a P1 certificate and that their selection will be on county merit lists made during the recruitment exercise of August 2016.Also, Ms Macharia said successful candidates will be facing deployment to various stations across the country and not necessarily in the county of their recruitment.“All interested candidates should submit their applications to the respective county directors and boards of management as above not later than March 22, 2017.”A detailed list from TSC shows available slots per county, with Kakamega leading at 108 slots for primary schools while Elgeyo Marakwet County coming with the least at only four.“The recruitment exercise is free of charge. The TSC would wish to forewarn applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from them purporting to assist in recruitment,” said Ms Macharia.
