Nyaribabari Chache MP Richard Tong’i said the commission should work out to increase the remuneration of teachers as well as introduce awards for teachers who do exemplary work.

The MP who was addressing teachers from his constituency on Sunday evening challenged TSC to employ more teachers to realise the required teacher-pupil ratio.

“We know the work our teachers do, and in some schools, the number of tutors is very small, and we call upon the commission to employ more of them, especially for schools in remote areas,” he added.

The legislator said hiring enough tutors will reduce the workload on teachers, who will in turn offer quality education to learners.

“It’s my considered opinion that TSC should fully engage the teachers, and look for ways of supporting them socially and economically, as the trainers many at  time face challenges that affect them emotionally,” he said.

He further challenged Kisii county leadership to create a kitty that would enable teachers’ access further studies, as this will, in the long run, help pupils excel academically.
