The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to fast track the process of paying pensions to the retired teachers.KNUT Eldoret West Executive Secretary Kipchumba Arusei claims most of the retired teachers have not been paid their dues for the last eight years."I want to urge TSC to act with speed by ensuring that retired teachers are paid their pension on time since most of them are living miserable lives despite working tirelessly for many years," Arusei said in Eldoret on Tuesday."We want the pension to be paid immediately after one retires since it's their right to be paid and not treating them as beggars whenever they go to demand for their rights," he added. The KNUT official however challenged the ministry of Education to hasten the process of distributing new curriculum materials to primary schools for the pilot program to start."We want to urge the Cabinet Secretary for Education Amina Mohamed to ensure that the implementation of the new curriculum is successful by ensuring teaching and learning materials are availed to respective schools on time,' said Mr. Arusei.
