The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has abolished demotion of teachers.
While making the announcement on Monday, TSC chairperson Lydia Nzomo said the commission will now henceforth only put its focus on progression.
She was speaking at the S
heikh Khalifa bin Zayed Children Welfare Centre in Mombasa during the 13th annual primary heads meeting.
“Nobody will be reduced from headteacher to classroom tutor. There will be no demotion,” she said.
She said
relegation often demoralised heads and lowered their self-esteem.
“How will you address others, walk around knowing you have been downgraded and effectively teach?” she posed.
She also said politicians and community leaders will now not have an active role in deciding the plight of teachers.
“No one will influence your sacking. Headteachers should do their job knowing they are protected,” Nzomo said.
