A family in Kisumu has been left in shock after a ‘fake’ official from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) defrauded them of Sh100, 000 promising to secure them a job with the service.
According to the family, the imposter had genuine TSC application forms which he availed to them through an elder in the area.
Speaking to a Hivisasa writer, the family noted that they borrowed loans of Sh70, 000 and Sh30,000 respectively to meet the Sh100,000 demanded by the conman to secure appointments for their children in TSC.
Catherine, one of the family members recalled meeting the imposter at a prosperous hotel in Kisumu where he took the first batch of Sh70,000 after which he helped them fill the forms.
She narrated that after two days, the imposter called asking what school she would like to teach among the list he offered.
On the 3rd week, the conman sent her a letter alleged to be from TSC posting her at a local school in the area.
“It was so real and he asked me to wait for two weeks so that the name is updated with TSC system and she would soon be placed,” one of the family members explained.
“Since the deal was too sweet, I asked him if he would place my sister who had studied P1 at a local college in Tambach. He quickly accepted and said he needed another Sh30,000. I lamented about the money but he questioned if I was serious and noted that he had to share with his superiors,” she added.
After the family complied and made the full payment, the imposter disappeared and stopped picking their calls anymore.
“I decided to share my story so that no other innocent Kenyans out there fall prey to this conmen who have mastered the art of deceit and know how to make things real," a family member said.
