Uasin Gishu County Kenya Union of Post Primary Education of Teachers (Kuppet) Secretary general Elijah Maiyo has condemned the Teachers Service Commission for refusing to harmonize teachers' house allowance for the defunct Eldoret municipality.
He said despite numerous calls to address the matter for the last three years nothing has been done.
“It is sad that despite us urging the Ministry of Education and TSC to demarcate schools within the defunct Eldoret municipality for teachers to get uniform house allowances nothing seems to bear fruits,” he said in his office, Monday.
“With over 24 schools in the defunct Eldoret municipality only 7 schools are categorized as working in Eldoret municipality. That is why we want demarcation to be done afresh,” he added.
He reiterated that teachers within the municipality earn a monthly house allowance of sh 20,000 while those outside earn Sh16,000.
“We want the teachers allowances harmonised with an immediate effect since all teachers are equal,” noted Maiyo.
More than 400 teachers in the defunct Eldoret municipality have been affected.
