The Teachers Service Commission has announced that it will employ 7,000 more teachers to address the shortage being experienced in the country.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Nacy Macharia said the recruitment is meant to address the 85, 000 teachers shortage.

Macharia said that 1,225 teachers will be deployed in secondary schools while 3,775 will be posted in primary schools.

The commission will also hire another 2,157 to replace teachers who left through natural attrition of which 1,618 posts for primary schools and the other 539 for secondary and tertiary institutions.

“Eligible candidates should be Kenyan citizens, aged 45 and below, and must have original professional and academic certificates and be registered with TSC,” said Macharia in a statement to newsrooms.

Teachers who were earlier employed on contract basis will be required to attach a copy of their contract letter.

The candidates for primary posts must have a P1 certificate and should apply to TSC director in the respective region of the advertised vacancy.
