Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) warned TSC officials to stop pushing teachers to sign performance contracts until their concerns are addressed.

Knut national Deputy Secretary General Hesbon Otieno said they have received reports that some TSC officers in some counties were pressuring teachers and principals into signing the contracts.

Mr Otieno said they are under conciliator and will be having a meeting with TSC on May 25.

He said field officers of TSC should not behave as if there is no law in the country saying the law is clear and that is why they are working under the conciliator.

He said the TSC, Knut and Ministry of Labour through the conciliator are negotiating and will come up with the best way of implementing performance contracts and appraisals.

“They should not push our principals and teachers before we finish the process,” he said in Kisumu during the third National Early Childhood Education summit.

He said they are in the process of conciliation to understand better what they are getting into before they can official sign the contracts.
