The Kenya National Union of Teachers Chepkoilel branch secretary general Sammy Bor has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to hire more teachers to schools to save Board of Management (BOM) from the burden of hiring more teachers.
He said this leads to overstretching of limited resources that a school has been allocated.
"It is sad that some schools have employed over 10 BOM with a monthly salary of sh 12,000.This leads to compromise of infrastructural development due to high wage bill uses to pay teachers salaries," he said in Eldoret town, Monday.
"We are calling upon TSC to employ at least 20,000 teachers annually if the government wants to students to get quality and not quantity education," he added.
He, however, said for the free secondary education to be successful more teachers should be deployed since the current number is a drop in the ocean.
Bor called on parents to take good care of their children, especially during this long holidays.
