Speaking at Nyakongo primary school during prize giving ceremony, Kenya National Union of Teachers secretary general James Oteki said it was difficult for teachers who have not joined the profession to know the exact institutions in which they should apply.

“Education system is evolving and so the systems of TSC should also change to comply with the new dispensation. It is important for all Kenyans to know the moment vacancy emerges so that the exercise if free and fair,” he said.

“It is so sad that only school heads are aware of institutions that require new workforce and unfortunately, they end up awarding their close friends and kin hence denying other competent Kenyans jobs,” he said.

He was backed by teachers in attendance, who urged TSC to make the list of schools that need more teachers public in all national dailies.

“They should give everyone equal chances of serving in the teaching fraternity. This will be fundamental because jobs should be competed for in an equal and transparent manner,” said Bruce Kerage.
