Kiptagich MCA James Tuei was on Thursday elected as the new Nakuru Deputy Speaker, following impeachment of former Speaker Samuel Tonui.
Tuei a United Republic Party (URP) member said he would work with all MCAs for the sake of county's development.
“I will strengthen the relationship between the warring MCAs to ensure harmony exists,” said Tuei.
Tuei urged fellow MCAs to work for the benefit of Nakuru residents and stop infighting.
“Political wrangles and infighting in Nakuru House Assembly should be discouraged to enable leaders work for residents,” said Tuei.
He said constant infighting would only derail development projects, and send a bad picture to those who elected them, further observing that the growth of the county depends on effort of MCAs, but not accusations against each other and the speaker.
“I urge MCAs to forge a cordial relationship with speaker to fast -track development issues,” continued Tuei.
He also dismissed allegations of incompetence against him by some MCAs, saying there are political detractors to have him removed from the office.
“All the right channels were used when I was been elected and the issue of political propaganda should not be brought in,” said the newly elected leader.
Tuei's election as Deputy Speaker had met resistance from some MCAs, who wanted to amend standing orders to have him declared null and devoid.
Tuei takes office after his predecessor; Samuel Tonui was impeached by MCAs for ‘misconduct’.
