Tough tug-of-war side General Service Unit (GSU) team made light work of three participating opponents to be crowned winners during the playoffs tournament held AT Kihoto grounds in Naivasha.
The gritty paramilitary side saw off determined Laikipia before their stamina prevailed against equally enterprising hosts Nakuru County.
Event coordinator Kennedy Keter said the participating teams had qualified in their respective categories and the playoffs were for ranking purposes.
“The participating teams are slated to take part in the world championship to be held in South Africa next year,” he said.
Kisumu county wad representative and participant Caren Amuga said the contest gave them good exposure.
Going by their pedigree in the rope pulling sporting event, Laikipia team oozed confidence but were stopped in their tracks by the brutal power of the GSU team.
They lost by two straight rounds in the contest that proved to be a one-sided affair.
The Nakuru outfit gave the mercurial paramilitary side a scare when they appeared to gain ground, only to surrender to a resilient side that relied on raw strength and skills.
Next on the firing line was a modest Kisii County side that comprised of ward representatives who found it going tough against a well-drilled opponent.
The GSU side won the gong and with Nakuru side coming second, Laikipia settled for an uncustomary third position.
Only two teams took part in the women contest with Nakuru stopping their Kisumu counterparts who also had a number of MCAs in their lineup.
