Confirming the incident, Mombasa police commander Johnstone Ipara said the suspect identified as Mr Elvis Mweki was arrested after members of the public found him trying to defile the minor.

Mr Ipara said the suspect who hails from Changamwe had driven the minor over 25 Km and parked his tuk tuk inside a bush to defile the minor.

Members of the public who were going to work that Monday morning saw the parked tuk tuk and upon a close look, the suspect was found attempting to defile the girl.

The police were informed which led to the arrest of the suspect who is currently in police custody and the minor was rushed to the Coast general hospital for medical check-up, Mr Ipara said.

“Luckily enough members of the public informed the police before the man defiled the minor. Maybe he could have killed her,” said the police commander as quoted by Baraka FM.

Mr Ipara who thanked members of the public for informing the police said investigation into the incident is ongoing adding that the suspect will be arraigned in court to face charges of attempted defilement.

The suspect is said to be a well-known person to the minor’s parents since he drops her to school everyday.

The police commander urged parents in Mombasa to be keen with who they entrust their children to.
