The Association’s Secretary General Osman Kimani in an interview with this reporter at his office in Nakuru town on Saturday morning decried the high rate of tax imposed on the tiny vehicles taxi operators and urged the National Roads Safety Authority Chairman Lee Kinyanjui to intervene.

Kimani said that his association has been in constant talks with the county government transport, revenue collection and co-operatives departments, but the talks have not yielded any fruits.

He observed that the county government charges motorcycle taxi operators Sh300 per month, yet they are more active in business as compared to Tuk-tuk taxi operators who are charged six times more.

“This is very unfair. Our members do less business as compared to motorcycle operators, yet we are charged more. We are appealing to Kinyanjui and Governor Mbugua to intervene because we are suffering,’’ said Kimani.

He further urged the Nakuru County Assembly and the Ministry of Transport to create more comprehensive local regulations that will ensure fairness and road safety for all transport operators in the county including matatus and taxis, observing that the current policies favour some while work negatively to other transport operators.
