The superhighway is set to transform Eastlands through de-congestion of the notorious Jogoo Road and bring down cost of transport in the populous eastlands region of Nairobi.

​Commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2015, it is the most ambitious project undertaken by the Government in Nairobi since the construction of the Thika superhighway in 2009.
