After a six-member commission was formed to probe allegations that Judge Philip Tunoi received a bribe of sh200 million shillings from Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero, the verdict made by the commission has raised mixed reactions from Kibera residents.
According to the verdict, Tunoi was confirmed to have been in communication with the middleman, who is said to be a journalist. This, therefore, was recommended by the commission that the president forms a tribunal to investigate the allegations.
Moses Wafula from Kibera said the verdict does not mean that the judge is guilty of the allegations but rather, he needs to be well investigated to prove if he is guilty.
Amos Wanja says he feels the report by the six-member committee was supposed to be the final because they already have the background information. Wanja wants Tunoi to step aside and pave way for investigations.
Following the verdict, the said opponent, Ferdinand Waititu, now wants Governor Kidero removed from office. Kidero on the other hand, has refuted the bribery allegations. Tunoi too says the allegations are politically driven and are being pushed by a person who wants to succeed him in the judiciary.
