Speaking when he toured the constituency over the weekend, area MP Elisha Busienei observed that farmers are selling their produce at throw away prices.

He said farmers have been frustrated by government failure to buy their produce at good prices.

“I want to ask farmers to stop selling their maize at throw away prices and instead wait for the government to buy their maize,” he said.

The lawmaker said that farmers still have maize which the government should buy to avoid them from incurring losses.

Busienei urged the county and the national government to buy maize from farmers to save them from agony, adding that many farmers have expressed their displeasure and threatened to quit maize farming if the government fails to buy their produce.

The MP noted that Turbo is among top regions that produces maize, and that the government must buy their produce to help them advance the farming.

The legislator at the same time wants the county government to supply farmers from Uasin Gishu with planting inputs.

He said the rain season is near and that the county must ensure farmers access cheaper fertilizers and seeds.
