The MCA proposed the minimum requirement to run for the seat to be a degree, to a bachelor’s degree.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony of Teddy Kinyannjui, the son of a prominent journalist, The MCA cited that this will enable the deliberation of issues on the floor of the assembly to be easier.

“It is beneficial for MCAS to pursue various fields of expertise so as to bring different ideas on the floor of the assembly when a motion is proposed. This would make it easy analyze an issue from different angles,” he cited.

He pointed out that this would also enable them to make informed decisions when debating ideas.

“It will also be nice to hear what experts say about a particular subject, especially if it is in the floor of the house,” he added.

Wang’ombe raised concern over increased cases of residents calling them literate, citing that some of them had pursued their bachelors and were currently undertaking their master’s degree.

“At least 17 out of the 74 MCAs have degrees and many more are still in campus and will clear before the end of the year,” he added.
