Turi MCA Michael Wang'ombe has called the government to sack chiefs whose performance is below public expectations.

Wang'ombe who was addressing Turi ward residents who were demonstrating against alleged laxity by chiefs to stop the sale of illicit liquor on Wednesday, said local administrators must the deliver desired results.

"We expect those charged with serving the public to show commitment and demonstrate a high degree of integrity. Failure to which, they should be sacked and their positions filled by energetic and patriotic citizens," said Wang'ombe.

The residents accused the local chief of colluding with illicit brewers in sale of illicit liquor

"The chief has been receiving bribes to allow the sale and consumption of illicit liquor," said Evans Kimani, a resident.

Turi residents claimed that a man identified as Joseph Wachira lost his life on Wednesday after consuming the illegal brew.

The MCA said consumption of illicit liquor has brought untold suffering to the youth and said all efforts should be taken into account to eradicate the vice.

"We are not going to sit and watch the youth perish due to negligence," he said.

He said said that the fight against illicit brews will continue until all manufacturers are vetted and cleared, with those found to be in violation of the law being dealt with accordingly.
