A section of Turi residents in Molo have asked the Nakuru County government to construct lavatories for them or forget about collecting taxes in the area. The residents said they are sitting on a ticking time bomb and it is just a matter of time before diseases break out and start ravaging them.Businessmen have found it difficult to operate especially those with food joints as they have already received warnings from health officials to build toilets in their premises or risk closure.“We are asking the county government to construct toilets for us. Even in one’s home, the first thing is to ensure that you have a latrine. I earn my living here and I cannot imagine being driven out of business because of a latrine,” said Kimani, a hotelier. The business people have asked Governor Lee Kinyajui to visit the area and witness the sorry state.“If the governor hears our cry and comes here, he must come with those ‘choo za wakubwa’ (rich people toilets), because there is no single toilet left here. For example the road leading to railways has gotten a new name ‘road mavi’ because that is where everyone, including women go to relieve themselves. It is very shameful to say the least,” said Mwangi, another business man in the area. They are also asking the area MCA to open an office in the area as he is unreachable most of the time. “We do not know whether he operates a mobile office because he is always on the move. We need him to have a place where we can have a forum with him any time we need to,” said a businesswoman who introduced herself as Wangui. The businesspeople said the county government is supposed to ensure such facilities are available failure to which it should not collect taxes.
