Turkana Woman Representative Joyce Emanikor on Saturday escaped death after her vehicle was shot at by highway bandits.
The incident reportedly happened at at 'Lami Nyeusi' between Kainuk and Marich.
She was on her way back to Nairobi after launching her re-election bid.
In an address to the media, the lawmaker decried the rising insecurity in the area, calling on the government to enhance security and patrols in the region even as the country gears up for the August polls.
"In the last two weeks, we have lost two people one of them a policeman at the same spot. I reported to the nearest police post of Kambi Karaya and I sympathised with the officers who looked desperate since they had just lost a colleague at the same place," she noted.
"I appeal to the government to quickly respond by giving patrol cars in the affected areas of Pokot and Turkana. There is also need for an amoured vehicle at that border which will deter the ever increasing cases of highway banditry and cattle rustling in the area," she added.
Security in the North Rift has in the recent past deteriorated, with bandits and cattle rustlers wrecking havoc in the region.
