A Turkish Airline jet was forced to make an emergency landing in Khartoum following a bomb scare on Thursday.
According to reports, the jet was carrying 107 passengers from Nairobi to Cairo when passengers raised alarm of a bomb threat.
“Turkish Airlines flight 606 made an emergency landing after a passenger on board said he received an email saying there was a bomb on board,” civil aviation authority spokesman Abdelhafiz Abdelrahim.
The spokesman however confirmed that all 107 passengers had been safely evacuated.
Abdelrahim says the plane was in Sundanese airspace when the pilot informed Khartoum airport over the need to make an emergency landing.
“The plane is now in an isolated area of the airport. Security officials searched the plane and passengers’ luggage but didn’t find anything suspicious,” said Abdelrahim.
The spokesman says authorities are interrogating the British passenger who reported the issue.
Further details into the incident are still yet to be confirmed.
