The Turkish Ambassador to Kenya H.E Deniz Eke Wednesday morning handed over 250 plus bee keeping kits which consist of a bee hive, a bee hive stand, a semi -processing unit and a harvesting kit to representatives of various self help groups, saccos and cooperative societies drawn from across Machakos county.

Machakos county and the entire Ukambani region has a climate that is suitable for bee keeping activities and the region is one of the leading honey producers of sweet natural honey.

However most of the beekeeping is done through  traditional means with less mechanization.

Machakos county also entered into an agreement with Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency and African bee keepers to provide technical support to farmers in the county.

Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua promised that the county will from the next financial year allocate funds to bee farming.

The Turkish ambassador promised to get market for honey from Machakos.
