Tusker FC’s midfielder Hashim Sempala forgot the war between teams on the ground when he rushed to assist Butterfly FC's player who collapsed during their GOtv Shield tie July 22 at the Kinoru Stadium in Meru.
According to the Standard, Amos Wasike had gone down unchallenged in the first half and the nearby Sempala rushed to the spot to prevent the young player from swallowing his tongue in what could be a fatal case.
“I have handled such situations before and when I saw him go down, I knew what to do. We are only opponents when playing, but when someone’s life is in danger, we have to help irrespective of the team one plays for,” the Ugandan said.
Wasike was later stabilised by the medical team and was grateful to Sempala.
“That’s true sportsmanship. Football is a game of friendship, and I want to thank Sempala for what he did for me,” he said.
