Tusker finished last season at sixth spot with 50 points, 24 shy of league winners Gor Mahia who lifted the cup with 74 points. The team will be banking on their new signings to deliver the trophy at the end of the season.

Ugandan-born coach Sam Timbe who replaces George Nsimbe after a disastrous 2017 campaign said his main aim is to prepare the newly-assembled team to perform well this season.

“I acknowledge this is a huge responsibility that the Tusker management has given me but I am confident I am going to deliver. My first task will be to ensure that they are fully prepared before the league commences in a few weeks times,” said Timbe during the team unveiling at Ruaraka Grounds.

In regard to whether the new players will bring great change into the squad Timbe explained: “Since I was not around: with the team last year, I hope the players will adhere to my way of play that can help us finish at the number one or second spot in the league.

I will rectify the mistakes that saw us go down 1-0 to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC on Monday evening. Tusker has brought on board midfielders Robert Achema from Western Stima, Apollo Otieno from Chemelil Sugar, veteran Peter Nzuki from Nakumatt.

In the striking department, the Ugandan coach has signed Timothy Otieno and Edwin Lavasta both from Gor and Amos Asembeka from Sony Sugar. In the defence, they have signed Lawrence Kasadha KCCA and Eric Ambunya from Kakamega Homeboyz.
