He says the objective of the code is to protect the interest of consumers, particularly children and minors from inappropriate content during watershed period.

Tv broadcasters are expected to meet the 40 per cent local content within the first year, and 60 per cent within the forth year upon commencement of operations.

Wangusi said that the provision will create jobs for the youth and also nurture talents in the creative arts industry.

It equally requires all TV broadcasters to provide sign languages interpretation for news programming, emergencies and events of national importance.

The code was launched last year by Communication Authority of Kenya and gave broadcasters a period of six months to align their operations within the provisions of the programming code.
