Lamu governor Fahim Twaha has vowed to deal ruthlessly with land grabbers allegedly wreaking havoc in the county.

The Jubilee governor says that his government will not negotiate with grabbers, adding that he will repossess all public land and property that has been grabbed.

Addressing journalists in Lamu on Monday, Twaha said that land grabbing is a serious issue in the county and that prominent politicians and businessmen have been linked to the vice.

He claimed that some prominent politicians and business people have grabbed public land resulting stalled development.

Twaha observed that development has been hindered as a result of public land grabbing.

“I am going to work with the relevant national government agencies to ensure that all grabbed land is repossessed,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

The Jubilee governor appealed to resident’s to supply his government with information on people who might have stolen private or public land.

Governor Twaha said that it will not be business, as usual, saying that grabbers should surrender before the long arm of the law catches up with them.

Twaha hit out at his predecessor Issa Timamy for failing to streamline land matters during his reign.

Meanwhile, Twaha has promised to spearhead issuance of land titles to genuine and land owners

He said that he is in talks with the Ministry of Lands and the National Lands Commission (NLC) to speed up title issuances to land owners.

The governor observed that land remains a sensitive matter, adding that issuance of tits to rightful owners will reduce ad disputes.
