The US president Donald Trump on March 28 replaced the US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec with Kyle McCarter, Illinois senator.
Senator McCarter who has impeccable charity ties to Kenya now awaits Trump's selection to be approved by the US Senate.
In the meantime, more leaders and ordinary Kenyans alike continue to relay their comments on Mr. Godec exit. The outgoing US envoy was nominated by the former US president, Barack Obama in 2012.
Most anti-Jubilee government figure tore into Mr Godec, depicting him as a sympathizer of an "authoritarian" regime.
"Sacking The Partisan Bob Godec Is The Best Easter Gift The US President Donald Trump Has Just Given Kenyans #GodecFired," @TheLoyalist_KE said.
@Asamoh_ wrote: "Good bye Bob Godec . Remember our last discussion on electoral democracy and accountability and respect for the rule of law. You have been mute on Human Rights abuses by the Jubilee Administration cc @BobGodec."
@chriskioko46 on his part noted "US Ambassador Bob Godec has been fired by President Donald Trump. This was long overdue ! The man has been silently fueling blatant violation of Human rights for material things and illegal deals from Jubilee government...."
@BrianOdeoh reacted: "@POTUS @realDonaldTrump has fired Bob Godec as ambassador to Kenya. Illinois Senator Kyle McCarter has been nominated to replace him. This is the sweetest news Kenya has received. Bob Godec is breaking the record of a bad and ever biased ambassador."
Former Education PS Prof James Ole Kiyiapi (@JamesOleKiyiapi) said; "Amb Bob Godec focused heavily on Kenya-US bilateral relations, seen as too cozy with administration - greatly infuriating opposition side. Overall, becomes the first American Ambassador in recent times to leave Nairobi with negligible or NO democratic credentials!"
Amidst the trolls, UK High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey said; "Trolls gonna troll/haters gonna hate. But no one who has met my fellow Balozi @BobGodec could question his deep and untiring commitment to Kenya, the Kenyan people and the values and institutions that make Kenya strong. He will be missed."
Amnesty International's Irũngũ Houghton (@irunguhoughton) praised Bob Godec saying; "Fact1: Amb @BobGodec's term expired a year ago. Fact 2: His term extended due to elections crisis. Fact 3: He pressed all parties to follow rule of law, dialogue, supported @RailaOdinga @UKenyatta handshake. Fact 4: These facts will not be retweeted by trolls."
Bob Godec has faced great resistance from Opposition leaders and supporters over what they believed was unfair siding with the Jubilee government after the 2017 repeat presidential poll.
Kenyan youth were severally pictured in anti-government protests burning American flags to demonstrate against Bob Godec for his stance in supporting Jubilee government. They argued that the Mr Godec was backing an "illegitimate government which forced its way in through electoral fraud."
McCarter, a manufacturer, and a politician has since accepted Trump's nomination and promised to bring the two nations closer together saying; “It is such honor to be asked to represent President Trump and our great nation in a country where I have lived and served for many years. I look forward to bringing about a closer relationship that will benefit both our nations."
McCarter founded the Each One Feed One International charity that helps orphaned and abandoned children as well as providing medical treatment for those with HIV and malaria. He has worked for the charity for over three decades. He and his wife, Victoria McCarter worked in Kenya back in 1987 and they helped build a medical clinic. Their work with the charity foundation resumed in 2011 to the present.
