Two General Service Unit (GSU) officers are said to have disappeared after a shootout with bandits at Matweku near Laikipia Nature Conservancy, over the weekend.

The Nation established that whereabouts of the two officers is known, during the incident, at the border of Laikipia and Baringo counties.

A police source who sought anonymity disclosed to the newspaper that a platoon of GSU officers were engaged in a fierce shootout with the bandits. They were believed to be illegal herders, before the two officers went missing.The newspaper further reported that when contacted over the same, Laikipia County police commander Simon Kipkeu, remained tight-lipped.He confirmed that an Administration Police (AP) officer attached to Rumuruti Police Station was injured during a shootout at Ol Maisor ranch, Wednesday night.“I am not aware of any missing GSU officers but l know of a police officer who was injured while on duty,” said Kipkeu, as reported by the local daily.
