A car wash attendant and a mechanic were on Wednesday arraigned in a court in Nakuru to face charges of vandalism, theft and possession of stolen property.
Philip Ngaira, 26, appeared before Chief Resident Magistrate Felix Kombo and denied that on December 1 this year at around 12noon, at Nuru Car Wash outlet within Nakuru town being an employee of the firm was assigned to clean a car belonging to Johnston Kiragu, a senior accounts officer at the Nakuru county government and thereafter committed an act of vandalism and thereafter stealing petrol oil that was stored in a container, a spare wheel, a Jerk machine and brake oil items that were stored in the car’s boot.
The prosecution desk informed the court that the complainant reported the missing items to the car wash firm’s manager Elisha Muchiri through phone upon arrival at his place of work and after noticing the items were missing.
The accused, the court heard was later arrested by police officers from Nakuru Central Police Station after the firm’s management advised the complainant to report the incident and record a statement with police. The prosecution added that upon investigations, the items were unearthed at a nearby car repair garage in possession of one George Ouma, 40,who the first accused intended to sell the items to.
The accused were remanded after failing to raise a bond of Sh20,000 each.
The case will be heard on December 30.
