Police officers in Eldoret town have arrested two people suspected to be among a cartel that has been fleecing unsuspecting members of the public millions of shillings with the promise of giving them calling letters to join the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) recruits training school.
Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga said the two were arrested in the outskirts of Eldoret town on Thursday following several complaints from those who had fallen prey the trap.
Addressing the press in Eldoret, Mutunga said the two suspects are alleged to be working with an unknown KDF officer named as Major Okelo.
They were arrested with several fake KDF calling letters.
“All these documents are fake. These guys are making a business from wananchi earning millions pretending that they are KDF officers,” noted Mutunga.
“They are claiming to be working with Mjr. Okello but we only know them and that’s why they have been arrested. KDF has always been clear that they will only accept letters issued at the recruitment centers so what they are doing is totally illegal,” he added.
The OCPD asked those who had been conned over the issuance of KDF calling letters to record the statement with the police so as to help in investigations.
It’s worth noting that last year, a suspect was also arrested for similar claims.
The two are expected to be arraigned in court to answer to several charges.
