Police in Garissa have arrested two people claimed to have been propagating hate in the county.
North Eastern regional commissioner Mohamud Saleh said the two posted provocative comments that were likely to cause violence between clans in the county.
“As security apparatus in the region, we are closely monitoring any individual writing and posting inflammatory materials on social media,” he said.
Saleh said those arrested had warned the county would go up in flames in the event the election is rigged in favour of one clan.
The two arrested, he said, would be arraigned in court on Monday to "act as an example to others who have the similar intentions."
“You need to think twice before you post because the consequences are dire.”
Saleh said law enforcers will ensure the poll is conducted in a peaceful environment across the regio.
County IEBC coordinator Antony Njoroge said the Commission has requested for more security for IEBC officers.
He called on politicians to preach peace as the country inches closer to holding an election.
“I want to assure aspirants and residents that we are determined to conduct a free, fair and transparent election,” he said.
