The nine-storey building, which is still under construction, already has both the National Bank of Kenya and Co-operative Bank operating on its ground floor.

The two banks have put up posters requesting customers to use alternative branches to transact business. The banks claim they closed their premises to give room for renovations.

"National Bank wishes to notify all our customers that we will remain temporarily closed to allow renovation of the building until further notice," read one of the posters.

A guard at the building quoted by Nairobi news said that some engineers have been called in to assess the extent of the crack inside the Co-operative Bank banking hall.
