Two boys drowned at Karironi community dam in Limuru yesterday during the climax of the New Year celebrations.
Dennis Mbugua and Kamau Gachoka, both 12 years old, were reported missing from their homes by their relatives and a search was launched for their whereabouts.
Some residents said the two were spotted heading to the dam a few hours earlier but were never seen coming back.
Traces of their being at the dam were confirmed by the presence of their clothes that were spotted next to the dam shores.
Residents suspected the two had drowned in the dam and alerted the area police and fire brigade to come and conduct a search.
The bodies of the boys, who were great friends, were later retrieved from the dam.
Area MP John Kiragu said it was sad losing boys of such a tender age.
Area police boss Moses Owiti confirmed the deaths of the two boys, and said their bodies were transferred to the City Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
The residents were warned against swimming in the dam following the death of the boys who were still in primary school.
