A family in Tarakwa ward, Kesses constituency are in mourning after two brothers were struck and killed on the spot by lightning on Thursday. According to Eldoret East OCPD Richard Omanga, the two were sheltering under a tree during heavy downpours when the lightning struck.
The two brothers were middle-aged.
“I want to confirm that two people who are brothers from Tarakwa ward were struck by lightning and died on the spot on Thursday during a high downpour,” Omanga told journalists in his Eldoret office, Friday.Heavy storms have ripped through many parts of the constituency in the past few days, leaving a trail of destruction.The OCPD advised residents to avoid sheltering under a tree while it is raining.“We need urgent measures to enhance the safety of our people now that it is clear this region is prone to lightning. We urge relevant government agencies to also put up preventive measures to combat such tragedies from happening,” he said.Omanga further called on both the national and county government officials to sensitize the public on security measures they should take to avoid being struck by lightning during the ongoing heavy rains.Their bodies were taken to Eldama Ravine Hospital waiting to be collected by their relatives.
